'Oldest' newsagents' 150th year

L Malone in Kildare town opened for business in 1864 - a year which saw the foundation of the National Gallery, the establishment of the Munster Bank, which would eventually become AIB, and a time when the must-read stocking filler was the first novel of the trail-blazing Uncle Silas gothic thriller series by J Sheridan Le Fanu. The shop sits on the main street in the centre of Kildare town, on what was the main route from Dublin to Cork and Limerick.
