Lue Morton was flying the Cirrus SR-22 from California to Maui, Hawaii, on Sunday when he started having trouble with one of the fuel tanks, reports NBC Bay Area . He waited until he was flying near a cruise ship, at around 4:45 p.m. and some 250 miles away from his destination, and then pulled the cord.
