Recasting Lady Justice's image

She is one of the most recognizable female icons in the world, and hasn't much changed since her debut in 2375 B.C. Known as the goddess Ma'at in Egypt and as Themis to the Greeks, Lady Justice has lent her likeness to everything from ancient pyramids to Roman coins, and today graces courthouses around the globe. "I was fascinated by how she has lasted through so many millennia," said local sculptor Jodha Sara Hilldale, 45, who began researching Lady Justice's history five years ago while living with her significant other, an attorney, on Balboa Peninsula.
